Michelle Berndt
Mrs. Iowa United States 2009 Michelle Berndt is an Admissions Advisor for Kaplan University where she helps students choose career paths and become successful graduates. She lives with her husband Stephen and 2 year old daughter Grayce. Together they enjoy visiting the museum, zoo and water park. Michelle and her family believe in community service and giving back to others. She is involved with Children’s Miracle Network and the Miss Iowa Scholarship Program where she trains contestants and produces local pageants. Michelle received a Volunteer Service Award from President George W. Bush for over 5,000 volunteer hours. An advocate for Literacy since 2000, Michelle has traveled the state of Iowa promoting the importance of making reading a daily habit in every household. Her motto is “One illiterate citizen is one too many!” In 2005 she founded First Book Johnson County and has raised $20,000 to purchase books for lower income families.
